DEAPRTMENT OF DEFENSE: ARMY AIR FORCE EXCHANGE SERVICE Dallas, Texas / Iraq / Korea / Japan / Guam 1985-2008 Retail sales company serving US armed forces at military installations worldwide. $9B in annual revenues.
Region Chief Engineer 2008 Managed all AAFES locations in 12 western states, encompassing 26 military installations and approximately 260 facilities, to provide quality products and services to military personnel. Oversaw work of 8 office staff and 90 technicians, foremen, architects, and project managers in remote locations. Collaborated with 22 General Managers throughout region to provide maintenance, repair, expansion, renovation, environmental compliance, codes and standards, and handicapped services at all locations. Provided project planning and oversight for large-scale initiatives with project costs exceeding $1M. Increased technician productivity by more than 45% through more efficient scheduling. Improved project throughput by expediting contracting, material purchasing, and equipment acquisition. Chief Engineer 2003-2005 Supported living needs of more than 150,000 troops serving in Iraq. Established numerous stores and facilities on short order to provide food, entertainment, and other needs to US and allied forces. Recruited and developed team of local technicians, and trained on western-style construction. Addressed numerous safety issues related to traveling and operating in combat zone. Managed development of 36 facilities over 9 months, with a total value of $35M. Facilities included both new construction and renovation of existing structures. Opened first Burger King in Baghdad, and served over 3000 troops in first day. Story featured on CNN and 60 Minutes. Earned Superior Accomplishment Award recognizing significant accomplishments and contributions.
Project Manager 1995-2003 Managed more than 40 construction projects at locations worldwide, including Turkey, Germany, England, Puerto Rico, and Alaska. Projects included large shopping centers, retail outlets, gasoline stations, convenience stores, and fast food restaurants. Value of work performed to support US and coalition forces exceeded $30M. Total value of work managed in this position exceeded $300M. Opened 3 overseas shopping centers in timely fashion despite significant setbacks and increased security measures resulting from 9/11. Obtained 60 days temporary security clearance for local contractors to perform installations, and influenced contractors to work extended hours to complete projects due to 3 weeks lost time.
Senior Mechanical Engineer 1985-1995 Provided engineering administration and oversight, standards development, and value engineering. Reviewed and directed design and construction team. Designed and constructed 3 distribution centers, including truck fleet stations and mechanized conveyor systems that supported worldwide operations. Provided mechanical engineering design and construction support to more than 200 projects.
