PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Columbian Chemicals Canada Ltd., Hamilton, Ontario 2001 2010 (Manufacturer of Carbon Black) Project Manager, Project management including analysis, design, preparing specification of equipment, construction, purchase, material control, project planning and scheduling, cost control, forecasting cash flow, co-coordinating with vendors, pre-startup inspection, installation validation, testing and commissioning. Annual budget for capital projects 5 million USD. Constructed and installed two 800C carbon black heat exchanger for energy saving. Project value 4 MM USD increasing revenue 1.2 MM USD per year. Constructed and installed two 7 feet diameter and 60 feet long carbon black dryers for energy saving by using Kilburn Engineering, India to fabricate the dryer and reducing the capital cost by 200K USD. Procurement, installation and commissioning of 4MVA high voltage substation installation for entire plant. Project is 4.5 MM USD. Provided feasibility study for on site oxygen plant (Canada 20 TPD) and negotiated with current oxygen vendor saving 100K CAD per year. Provided feasibility study for onsite oxygen plant (USA 80 TPD) with potential savings of 400K USD per year when implemented. Prepared the project proposal to install 2MM USD high-density racking and robotic palletizer for warehouse with potential savings of 800K CAD. Reviewed and installed all fire suppression system (FM-200, sprinkler system & water hydrant) for the entire plant. Used variable speed drives to reduce energy consumption for air compressors, fans and pumps which has a motor more than 150 BHP with energy savings of 40-55%. Used CFD modeling to change dutch oven burner design and improve efficiency by 38%. Trained over 10,000 contractor personnel on plant safety and environmental policy. Provided excellent leadership ensuring all projects were completed without any accident or incident and reportable or non-reportable environmental release.
Acting Engineering Manager 2006-2007 Prepared five year strategic plan for Capital equipment investment as well as drafted contingency planning for major critical equipment failure. Initiated plans to replace existing 650C heat exchangers by 950C high temperature heat exchangers to recover heat energy and improve the yield of the process by 4.5%. Prepared the feasibility report for installing 10MW cogeneration plant by using the by-product gas and synchronizing with the utility. Prepared the report for ERIP program to obtain a rebate for electricity from the utility department. Created innovative ideas to reduce electricity consumption, water usage and boiler chemicals in the plant. Performed HAZOP on major projects as a part of risk management.
