May 2008 November 2009 DIRECTOR OF RENOVATION AND CONSTRUCTION Provided the leadership and management to a team of project managers, estimators, professional technicians and interns at a facility of 9.4 million square feet of floor area comprised of over 120 buildings. Initiated, implemented and managed service contracts with outsourced contractors and design professionals who partnered with team members to provide planning, design, cost estimates, and construction services for renovations as requested by customers and administration on and off campus. Facilitated capital construction programming for projects. Coordinated construction and renovation with facilities operations including maintenance, custodial, grounds and engineering. Additional responsibilities included the development and management of project financial budgets, the management of departmental staff and budgets, and the development of departmental policies and procedures to assure compliance with University Policies and Procedures. Reviewed projects from conception through completion supporting team members so that renovation projects meet Construction Codes, Bureau of Fire Safety compliance and approval, Life Safety Code, and contractual obligations including payments, close-out documentation and warrantees. Recent projects and accomplishments include: Complete renovation of 6050 Cass Avenue to construct a state of art Police Headquarters for Wayne State University Police Department Budget $4,900,000 Completed June 2008 Replacement of a Cedar Shake Roof on the historic Charles L. Freer House. Design is complete and construction is out for bid. Budget $625,000 Estimated Completion 2010 Renovation of the University Athletic Training Facility including the addition of plunge pools at the Matthaei Athletic Complex. Budget $240,000 Completed July 2009 Revised bid and award processes for time and material contracts from annual methods with values of $150,000 to five year revolving contracts with values starting at $500,000. August 2003 May 2008 ASSISTANT DIRECTOR REIMBURSABLE CONSTRUCTION Managed the day-to-day operations of the reimbursable construction and project management team. Responsibilities included project planning, estimating, contract negotiations, contract management, fiscal operations of General Improvement Requests and associated projects, receivables and payables, customer service, and management of staff. Provided work order project work and capital project management with a team of project managers, estimator, professional technicians, and interns. Key roles and accomplishments: Developed and implemented improvements to the work order system 2007/2008 streamlining processes including the implementation of NTE estimating and direct billing. Decreased timelines by 50%, costs by 22% and created a paperless system Developed and implemented an intern program with the Civil Engineering Department of the College of Engineering offering professional services at a discounted cost.
