Supervised the writing, editing, and production of HMAT magazine, the technical journal for the asphalt pavement industry. Moved the magazine from costing the association about $100,000 per year to profitability. Between 2005 and 2008 advertising revenues rose more than 85%. Supervised the production and design of ActionNews, a bi-weekly newsletter. Transformed it to an e-letter format that increased information and circulation. Costs were reduced more than 75%. Launched the organizations job board that was used by more than 500 companies. Supervised the companys online store day-to-day activities for the last six months. Financial communications 2003 This national organization represents the interests of electric cooperatives and the consumers they serve. As an independent contractor, I wrote for publications explaining investments and retirement planning for employees of the local cooperatives. General American Insurance St. Louis, Mo. and New England Life Insurance Boston, Mass. Manager of Communications 1995-2002 Both companies are owned by MetLife Insurance and market life insurance, retirement planning, annuities, and other wealth preservation instruments. As communication manager in bottom-line focused organizations, I supervised the production of Leadership magazine and other communication pieces designed to stimulate sales. One publication resulted in a $1 million key man insurance policy sale for an agency in Portland, Ore.
Monsanto St. Louis, Mo. Executive communication manager 1992-1993 This diversified manufacturer and distributor of agricultural products has also produced chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and various industrial products. I was the managing editor for Monsanto magazine, an award-winning publication, and did speechwriting for executives.
Campus Crusade for Christ Orlando, Fla. Senior Editor 1982-1992 Campus Crusade is a mission organization with outreaches to college and high school students, executives, athletes, and military personnel in many countries around the world. Managed and led a team of writers, editors, and photographers in the production of Worldwide Challenge, a bi-monthly magazine covering the activities of the organization. This publication had 100,000 subscribers, requiring coordinating travel for writers and photographers and interacting with stakeholders on publication content. The magazine won dozens of awards and citations from state-wide and national organizations. Traveled nationally and internationally to gather information for articles. Carried out fund-raising activities for the organization, raising over $200,000.
