SELECTED ACCOMPLISHMENTS Spearheaded launch of first magnesium valve cover for a major automobile manufacturer. Developed new processes required, including machining, component purchasing, assembly, and painting; designed production flow; trained workers; and outlined plans for shipping and delivery. This project laid the foundation for growing customer to over $50 million in sales. Developed comprehensive strategic business plan to guide sales and product development, specifying customer profile, market potential, and production capabilities. To assure success of plan, led development of $15 million in export business to Europe. Coordinated design and construction of a new plant within tight time frame of eighteen months, including site search, contractor selection, design development, and construction oversight. Expanded the master planned site three times in an efficient cost-effective manner. Led initiative to bring magnesium scrap remelting in-house. After learning the process from a European company; developed the equipment and building design; established operating procedures; and supervised start-up of an in-house remelt facility. This operation, one of two in North America, saved over $500,000 annually over tolling ingots with an outside smelter. As Secondary Operations Manager, established procedures for the department that provided corrective feedback to the casting department and dramatic quality improvement to the customer. Business with this customer doubled within three years, despite earlier concern of losing this customer due to quality problems. Established a work-in-process traveler sign-off system to integrate quality audits and sign-offs with the routing sequence of production operations. This simple but efficient lot control system earned the highest possible quality award recognition from two major automobile manufacturers.
