The project was an emergency bridge repair project for the Freeport Bridge in Freeport, PA. Repairs were completed for girders at bearings, stiffeners, webs, and flanges. Work consists of placing epoxy gel on existing steel then setting appropriate steel plates and/or angles, bolting connections and torque testing bolts assemblies. Work requires wearing safety harness and being in manlift or walking on elevated work platforms tied off to safety cable, also using extension ladders and hydra- platforms. Inspecting temporary roadway and drainage culvert, witnessing concrete cylinder breaks and, roadway line painting.

Butler County Project SR 0422/291 Summit Twp. Interchange Project Manager: Carl Ray Penn DOT District 10-0 The project consisted of creating new on and off ramps, roadway surfaces, rehabilitating and extending existing bridges. Existing SR0068 and SR0038 were excavated to new sub-grade elevation, sub-base placed 4 depth and concrete paving done. Concrete paving was slip formed and manually placed. Ms Paglia was supervisor inspector on project. Loop sensors were placed prior to concrete placement, measured and paid. Prior to paving start inspection of drainage was covered; it consisted of 18 RCP, 18 RCP Open Jt., Thermoplastic Pipe and Cast in Place Reinforced Concrete Inlet placements. Excavation for pipe runs were measured and paid as Class 1 & 4 Excavation, also pipe paid once backfilling completed. Witnessed concrete testing, cylinder breaks and recorded data; also conducted verification testing for every tenth acceptance test contractor performed. As supervisor Ms Paglia scheduled inspection staff and overseen their work both in field and office. Supervised staff of five inspectors.

As a drafter/designer Ms Paglia used Auto CAD releases 8 through14 to create drawings from survey notes as well as basic design data. Assisting in collection of survey data and completed all hydraulic work. Basic design consisted of quantity computations for structure and roadway items, erosion control, cross section, structure, and roadway plans. When an Inspector-In-Charge (Field Manager) all aspects of overseeing inspection were assumed by Ms Paglia. Two county Bridge Maintenance workers were supervised on a per diem basis. In this capacity all records (i.e. master diary, sketch computation, items, estimate, and field books) were kept manually. All work complied with Penn DOT standards and specifications and was periodically checked by Penn DOT representatives. Upon completion of projects all records were sent to Penn DOT Finals Unit for review before project could be considered completed. The following lists a few of the bridges worked on:
Bridge # 1003 Pearson Rd., Perry Twp.
Project consisted of construction of a 73 feet single span adjacent box beam bridge with roadway clearance of 24 feet 9 inch and pile foundation.
Bridge # 2207 Jack Rd., Worth Twp.
Project consisted of the rehabilitation of a 34 feet span with roadway clearance of 17 feet. The project involved welding an open grid deck in place, replacing one existing abutment, capping the other, and five of seven beams also painting beam and deck.
Bridge # 2328 Cassidy Rd., City of Hermitage
Project consisted of the construction of a single span 12 feet cast in place Reinforced Concrete Box Culvert with roadway clearance 24 feet.
Bridge # 2710 East Gilmore Rd., Wolf Creek twp.
This bridge was washed out by flooding, causing emergency replacement with 20 feet single span cast in place Reinforced Concrete Box Culvert. Approach work on 24 feet clearance roadway also done.
Bridge # 1601 Canon Rd., Lake Twp.
Project consisting of the construction of a 30 feet single span adjacent box beam bridge with 28 feet 6 inch roadway. The structure involved pile foundation with plastic sleeves, sheet piling for excavation and stream diversion. The roadway remained open to traffic by means of a maintained run around lane.

Other items of inspection during tenure with Mercer County Bridge Dept. includes pile driving, diversion ditches, painting, plate pipe culvert, steep grade box beams fitted with sole plates, gabion slope walls, excavation around historical landmarks that could not be disturbed, and other incidentals to bridge projects. Also seeding and soil supplements, guide rail placement, and final survey shots taken to final class one excavation.
