Industry Type : Engineers

Job Title Senior Structural Designer/CAD and BIM
Relocation Preferences : None
Objective : Dear Human Resources representative:

I've attached my resume. I was recently laid off from my position as senior structural detailer and senior CAD and BIM specialist at Engineering Design Technologies, Inc. I am one of the fastest, most knowledgeable and accurate designers around (very helpful at crunch time!), and work in AutoCAD, Revit architecture and structure packages, Microstation, and the Bentley BIM structural package.

I design, detail, check shop drawings, can recommend structural and construction products, facilitate coordination and problem-solving between the various disciplines, am especially adept at coordinating with the architects, answer RFIs, perform field visits, transfer files to clients and to the other disciplines hassle-free, provide documentation at project milestones according to your firm's protocol, and perform construction administration.

I can also provide CAD management for your firm if needed, such as creating "smart" title blocks, LISP routines, PC3 files to make the plotting effort more streamlined, and detail and sheet standards libraries, perform skills assesment and training, write CAD and standards manuals, and provide instructional reference documents for your intranet site.

You may contact my most recent supervisor, Wathal Bush, P.E., head of the structural department at EDT Inc., at 770 988-0400, or Jason Baines, P.E., the engineer I worked with most closely, at the same number. I would be happy to provide additional references and letters of recommendation.

Thank you very much for your consideration,

SP

Position sought:

Structural designer and/or CAD and BIM production software manager (AutoCAD, Revit Building and Revit Structure, Microstation, Bentley BIM), construction administrator, and/or construction inspector.

Functional summary:

I offer more than 20 years of experience in civil/structural engineering and heavy construction as civil/structural designer, heavy construction field office designer, engineering assistant, CAD manager, and assistant BIM manager. I have produced construction documents for building projects ranging from schools, churches, retail, parking decks, airport and industrial facilities, to high-rise hotels and office buildings; MARTA line, station, tunnel, bridge, and support facility projects; for more than one-hundred freeway and railway bridges including some interesting renovations; and for roadway projects ranging in scope from two lane roads to multi-level interchanges. Im very proud of my extensive work on United States Department of Defense projects, including my work as a civilian contractor at Forts MacPherson and Gillem. I am familiar with steel frame, concrete frame, CMU, joist, tilt-up and other pre-cast construction, pre-engineered steel construction, timber construction, and many types of tunnel and retaining wall construction. I am an exceptionally proficient drafter/modeler and my accuracy is usually beyond reproach.

My experience in construction has given me a critical eye for constructability of design and for the importance of coordination of the various disciplines within a project. I check steel, pre-cast, joist, pre-engineered steel and rebar shop drawings, and appreciate all I have learned from fabricators and contractors. As such, the construction documents I produce provide all necessary dimensioning and an appropriate level of detailing, reducing RFIs and the shop drawing review effort. I perform thorough site visits. I have received praise from many engineers for having an eye for value engineering from the inception of our effort on projects.

I can advise your firm on matters of CAD and BIM efficiency; train staff in their use; install and implement CAD and BIM and updates; produce template files, seed files, sheet files, sheet sets to automate plotting, extraction files, .ctb files, etc.; produce CAD and BIM manuals; organize block/cell and detail libraries to reduce the production effort; and eliminate any plotting and file transmission headaches your firm may be experiencing.

I work and communicate very well with architects, fabricators, and contractors, reducing the time and effort necessary to solve problems and keep us on schedule. I keep up with new construction products available that can help improve our design, reduce cost of structure including maintenance costs, and extend the life of the structure, and am beginning to familiarize myself with LEED requirements.
