Work Experience
Key roles and responsibilities:
National Construction Manager, Schindler Lifts Ltd May 2006 to October 2008
Working at Board level, responsible for the companies Business Development and New Projects departments, which now has an annual turnover of approximately 12 million.
I develop the companies annual Business Plan and have overall management for approximately 60 staff, including 4 Sales Managers, and 3 Project Managers. This includes the standard staff management responsibilities, including HR, target setting and Health and Safety issues.
Since taking up this post, and as a result of the focus and effort I have made with regards to client satisfaction, and the recruitment of a relatively new Sales team, I have managed to build an excellent rapport with major clients, and the company is now in a position to tender for large contracts, that they didnt previously tender for. This has resulted in the Sales figures increasing by approximately 50%, compared to the same period in previous years. For example, I have secured recent contracts, such as Grand Canal Square, worth 3.4 million, Ikea, worth 1.3 million and Dublin Castle, worth 1.2 million.
Project Manager, Otis Lifts Ltd Feb 2005 to Feb 2006
Managed a number of Lift installation teams in the West of Ireland, the Midlands, and major projects in Dublin. I develop Project Plans which help monitor and evaluate progress. I liaise with clients, clearly communicating and agreeing the Project Plans, timescales and any other issues. I also attend pre-contract meetings.
I set, agree and manage work plans for all engineers within my Regions, and monitor all Performance Management and Health and Safety issues.
To successfully manage performance, I developed a monthly Performance report, which includes information on efficiencies, resources, budgets and also highlights any areas of concern. It makes recommendations regarding solutions to increasing Performance levels, and the report is shared with other Mangers and Engineers, and it also feeds into the companies Business Development plan, and assist in recognising certain training or development requirements.
I also carry out extensive Health and Safety audits, toolbox talks, and liase with Engineers and Management, on a daily basis, regarding Health and Safety issues.
Contracts Manager, Independent Lifts Ltd Sep 2003 to Feb 2005
Responsible for management of the lift installation department for the Birmingham and West Midlands region, in the UK.
I managed 8 installation teams, 4 sub-contract installation teams and 3 commissioning and test teams.
Prior to my arrival, the Birmingham and West Midlands region was at the bottom of the companys league table in terms of performance and efficiencies. To establish the reasons for this I carried out some initial research, with both colleagues and clients, and quickly identified reasons and solutions for the poor performance. To resolve this I developed and agreed an Action Plan, with colleagues, to rectify the situation. The Action Plan set out clear measures, responsibilities, and deadlines, required by individuals and teams, to help improve performance. I also shared the Action Plan with clients and asked for their input, recognising that their feedback was essential in ensuring that I was able to carry out positive action to improve the service they had previously experienced. This liaison with clients helped build a good rapport, and was widely appreciated by the clients involved. Previous tense relationships between clients and the company were relaxed, and I managed to achieve excellent working relationships with all my clients.
I also recognised development and training needs, which involved me obtaining agreement from colleagues and Management regarding the type of LEIA courses, which would be suitable for my staff.
I also had responsibility for the Project Management of over 2.5 million of Contracts per year. I managed the contracts from sales handover until the final account is settled. This includes all health and safety issues.
Project Sales Manager, City Lifts Ltd Sept 1999 Sept 2003
Based in the Netherlands and covering Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany. I had responsibility for the installation of lifts, managing contracts, and all after sales work, including maintenance. I had main responsibility for Major projects with clients from the UK and USA. I was also responsible for 2.5 million of contracts per year, and managing all Health & Safety issues.
Installation Manager (Sub Contractor) Apr 1992 - Aug 1999
Sub Contracting as an Installation Manager for a range of Lift Companies: Mid West Lifts, City Lifts, Ormond Lifts, Jem Lifts and Coastal Lifts. I managed 3 installation teams, and had responsibility for fitting a range of Lifts including both Hydraulic and Traction.
Sales Manager, Elevator Supply Services Ltd - Mar 1990 - Mar 1992
Selling and supplying elevators, parts and labour to the lift trade. In particular, I sold Omega lift packages and supplied the labour to install them. I was responsible for setting up a Sales Office in Ireland, which expanded the companys customer base, as previously they hadnt supplied lifts in this country. We supplied the lift trade with over 400 lifts in this period.
Lift Fitter & Installation Manager, City Lifts Ltd - Oct 1982 Feb 1990
Starting my career as a trainee lift fitter, I then progressed to Lift Fitters Mate in 1983, and continued my progression to Lift Installation engineer in 1986. During this time I developed an excellent working knowledge of a wide variety of lifts, ranging from the smallest to the largest of goods lifts. This experience allowed me to develop my career further and I undertook the role of Installation Manager in 1989.
