Asphalt Operations Manager and Senior Project Manager

Asphalt Operations Manager: Responsibilities included the supervision of four asphalt paving crews and the co-ordination with the two asphalt plants within the Sarasota Divisions area. The primary focus was scheduling and that the crews placed the asphalt per the FDOT specifications. Utilized schedule board to track each crews work load. .These crews paved for both commercial and FDOT projects. The FDOT projects included:
-US 17 in Charlotte County Design - Build
-SR 70 in Manatee County Design- Build
-SR 684 (Cortez Road) in Manatee County
-US 41 By-Pass in Sarasota County
-I-75 Bridge Widening Project in Manatee and Sarasota County
-US 41 in Sarasota County from Jacaranda Blvd. to River Road

Senior Project Manager: Responsibilities included three project managers and the oversite of all FDOT projects in Manatee and Sarasota Counties as listed:
-SR684 (Cortez Road) from 17th Street to 44th Avenue in Manatee County
-SR684 (Cortez Village) from the bridge to east of 119th Street in Manatee County
-15th Street from south of the railroad to north of 30th Avenue in Manatee County
-US41 from 10th Street to 11th Street in Sarasota County
-SR70 Design-Build- in Manatee County

Scheduled these projects using Suretrak software and updated each one monthly to be submitted with the monthly estimates. Updated each project on a weekly basis so the operations department could plan their resources as necessary. These weekly updates were also utilized to submit to management as to the projected completion of the project and what steps needed to be implemented to finish the project within contract time.

Track claims for time and revenue and submit to owner or owners representative. Responsible for attending the construction meetings and resolving issues that were unable to be resolved at the foreman or superintendent level.

CC Mangum, Inc. 2001 - 2002

Vice President / Project Manager to oversee the companies highway construction. Duties included: the management of the Highway Division which oversaw 30 plus employees which included heavy grading crews and pipe crews and stone base crews. the project schedule; scheduling of the crews; correspondence with the NCDOT; attended weekly construction meetings; update of monthly cost to completes for each project;,submission of claims; issue resolution; monthly budget reviews. Utilized HCSS estimating software. Reviewed and signed off on all DOT bids. Projects included:

-NCDOT I-540 Raleigh Outer Loop New Construction and Widening Existing 2.5 Miles, $18 Million
-NCDOT I-40 Durham County Widening, 5 Miles, $10 Million.
-NCDOT Durham County - Intersection Improvement.$1.5 million

Company had bonding issues and I was unsure about the direction it was going so I seeked other opportunities. Company was very solid in previous years.


Rea Construction Company 1992 - 2001
Public Contracts Estimator: Bid NCDOT and municipal projects. Responsible for reviewing the plans and specifications and researching any questions that may arise, calculating the costs for each bid item, soliciting and reviewing subcontractor and material quotations, and presenting to the Division Manager how the project is to be built. Also responsible for submitting the bid, writing subcontracts and purchase orders. Utilized in-house estimating worksheets (Excel) and HCSS software.
Public Contracts Manager: Responsible for a $20 Million a year budget that included the crew schedules, bid reviews, invoice approvals, subcontractor pay request approvals, correspondence to the NCDOT/Owner, issue resolution, claim negotiations, day to day construction activities. Had two DOT paving crews and three misc. grading crews under this position. Managed heavy grading and underground subcontractors when applicable. These projects ranged from resurfacing to rehabilitation to new construction. Projects included:

-NCDOT I-440 Raleigh Beltline Widening, $7 Million
-NCDOT I-85 Rehabilitation in Durham and Granville County, 11 Miles, $6 Million
-NCDOT US 1 Capital Blvd. Widening, 2 Miles, $5 Million
-NCDOT SR 781 Guess Road Widening, New Construction in Durham County, 5 Miles, $15 Million

Dickerson Carolina , Inc. 1990 - 1992
Estimator. Duties included reviewing plans and specifications and researching questions that may arise, calculating costs for each bid item, soliciting subcontractor and material quotes and presenting the Area Manager with preliminary bid for review. A Company designed estimating software was utilized and some of the NCDOT projects included: I -77 in Mecklenburg County (Widening, $12 Million); I-85 in Cabarrus County (Resurfacing, $5 Million); US 17 in Hanover County (New Location, $30 Million)

Estimator and Project Manager. Worked with site development in the private market. Projects included subdivisions, school and industrial sites. Company owned 631 and 621 scrapers, D-9 to D-3 dozers, etc. Duties included meeting with owners and developers, quantity take-offs, calculating costs, specification reviews, soliciting subcontractor and material quotes, project management and collections.

Blythe Industries 1985 - 1986
Forman and Junior Estimator. Responsible for fine grading, grading and erosion control on NCDOT Urban Widening projects. Traffic Control Foreman on I-85 in Mecklenburg County. Assisted the Senior Estimator with quantity takeoffs and performed other miscellaneous duties.
