Hiring Manager

Dear Hiring Manager,

I am writing to introduce myself as a potential Project Manager for your company. I believe that my strengths and skill sets may be well matched to your companys future growth plans. Following is a summary of my background and qualifications as they may pertain to your development objectives.

Construction engineering: Over the course of my career, I have garnered extensive experience in a variety of disciplines within the industrial construction and precast concrete industries. These run the gamut from drafting and engineering to fabrication and delivery. One constant in every position I've held, however, has been my drive to eliminate waste, maximize efficiency, and promote worker safety. For example, as Manager of Technical Services at Featherlite Precast, I implemented measures that cut engineering manpower requirements in half while doubling productivity. I also succeeded in reducing costs from 10 percent of contract value to 3 percent. Despite these gains, however, we did not sacrifice quality. On the contrary, during my tenure, error rates dropped from 30 percent to less than one half of one percent.

Project management: As a senior member of the management staff at PBM Concrete, I was chosen to spearhead the Precast Concrete portion of a $130 million joint venture building the 3.8 million square foot Detroit Midfield Terminal Parking Garage; the largest such facility ever constructed in a single phase. As part of my duties, I exercised oversight of the design phase of the project and was responsible for buyout, fabrication, and delivery of all precast materials. Although, the precast portion of the venture was originally projected to be a net zero project, I was able to implement strategies that netted the firm a full 8 percent.

Negotiation and contract administration: As a program manager and contract administrator, I have negotiated and consummated literally thousands of legally binding agreements - for projects both large and small - with owners, architects, engineers, general contractors, subcontractors, material suppliers, and government agencies. This last group includes the Corp of Engineers, the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy, and Departments of Transportation in multiple states. Regardless of the size of the project, however, my overarching goal has always been - and remains - to build and deliver a quality product in a safe manner, on time, and under budget.

Please refer to my resume for additional details about my background. My goal is to locate an opportunity where I can help a business grow and obtain operational excellence. To that end, I would welcome the opportunity to meet with you to discuss how I may be of service to your organization. In the next few days, Plese contact me to confirm receipt of these materials and discuss a logical next step. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Best Regards,

Mark Morrow
