Provided project management services for the renovation and upgrade of two resorts in Hawaii to The Blackstone Group. Worked in a difficult construction market that was exceedingly busy, overpriced and non-competitive.
* The 555-room Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa on the big island of Hawaii at a cost of $61,000,000. * The 545-room Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa on the island of Maui at a cost of $68,000,000.
CNL HOSPITALITY CORP., Orlando, Florida2002-2004 (Hotel REIT holding 136 properties throughout the United States) Vice President, Project Development
Provided ownership representation for the design and construction of CNL-owned projects in Phoenix and Seattle which were co-developed with Marriott International. Monitored project costs and construction schedule. Both projects opened on time.
* The 950-room, $300,000,000 J. W. Marriott Resort and Spa in Phoenix. * The 350-room $88,000,000 Seattle Waterfront Marriott.
Also managed the design and construction process for a new CNL-owned property in Southern California - the 156-room, $18,300,000 Foothill Ranch Courtyard by Marriott in Orange County, California. The project opened on time and was completed 3% under budget.
STARWOOD HOTELS & RESORTS, White Plains, New York1998 - 2001 (Controls 750 global properties comprising six different hotel brands.) Vice President, Design and Construction
Managed the Starwood team that provided technical services to new construction projects to ensure that new hotels were designed to meet the market demands of the customer, minimize hotel operating expenses, and comply with the quality standards of Westin and Sheraton hotels. Worked directly with Starwood's joint venture developing partners, architects, interior designers, other design consultants, and general contractors.
* Managed Starwood's technical input for fourteen Westin and Sheraton hotels with a total project value of $1.3 billion. These properties ranged in size from 238 to 1,200 guestrooms. * Developed positive working relationships between the client developers and the Starwood team members. This created credibility for Starwood and increased the value of its services to the developers. * Created, evaluated, and documented design guidelines and standards for the Westin hotel brand.
WESTIN HOTELS & RESORTS, Seattle, Washington1979 - 1998 (Company acquired by Starwood Hotels & Resorts in 1998.) Director, Project Management
Managed a 16-member staff and was responsible for worldwide new construction projects and major renovations of existing buildings in this 120-property hotel company. Directly managed projects for which Westin was the owner/developer. This responsibility required me to obtain governmental approvals, negotiate contracts with design consultants and contractors, develop and control project budgets, and administer both the design and construction phases of the project. Directly managed the following projects where Westin was the owner/developer:
* The addition of a 44-story, 475-room tower to The Westin Seattle - $70,000,000 project cost in 1982. * The construction of a 12-story, 550-room Westin O'Hare - $72,000,000 project cost in 1984. * The construction of a 7-story, 400-room Westin San Francisco Airport - $45,000,000 project cost in 1987. Opened two months early and was $1,500,000 under budget. * The renovation and upgrade of the 400-room Westin South Coast Plaza - Orange County, California $10,500,000 project cost in 1990. * The completion of a partially-finished Westin resort in Guam in 100 days instead of the originally planned 11-month schedule. * The development of a 16-story, 385-room Westin Sea-Tac - $55 million projected project cost in 1999. The project was placed on hold pending FAA approval.
