Summary of Key Strengths
Career Highlights and Achievements
Outdated architectural blueprints created wasteful spending. Services and renovations at 22 facilities exceeded budget. Updated data entries, plans and specifications, interpreted structural and systems data supporting a redesigned master print with sectionals. Project costs for initial surveys and delays were nearly eliminated for an estimated annual saving of $500K.
Public alarm. As a CBR specialist I provided administrative and field support identifying safeguards against hazards. As an integrative team member I facilitated a training program for a coordinated emergency response.
Entrepreneur spearheaded a new venture. Converted investment and perseverance into a value-added business. Produced architectural green construction, enhanced air exchange, promoted solar energy, reduced heat loss, recycled grey water prevented storm-water erosion, and maintained sustainable standards according to Storm Water Management for Construction Activities.
Manufacturer needed safety upgrades. Workplace subjected to unsatisfactory safety ratings, increased insurance cost, and diminished productivity. Initiated audit recommending improvements. New safety practices adopted: an emergency response plan, awareness of safety rules, and workers rights. Injuries declined by 20% and time-loss reduced significantly.
Home construction delayed one year. Delays provoked customer dissatisfaction. Lawsuit was pending. Newly hired master carpenter surveyed troubled jobsite, assessed needs, designed scope and sequence for production, implemented effective change achieving customer satisfaction and job requirements. Contractor and home owner were delighted and submitted accounts that were featured in a national home magazine, Su Casa, accrediting me as the craftsman responsible.
College building and maintenance department needed master tradesman. Repairs and renovations were critically needed. Built cabinets and architectural products for installation. Retrofitted doors, windows, and stairs. Refurbished needed wall repairs. School reopened on scheduled accommodating record number of students.
Students questioned the need for mathematics. Under-achievers often needed to be remediated at taxpayer expense. Generated motivation and task ownership, mentored analytical and organizational skills, nurtured relevance and competence thereby reducing students at risk. Developed systematic instructional and organizational curriculum design.
State of New Hampshire required integrative studies in schools. Designed writing skills program, computer graphics, and structural engineering projects. Students demonstrated integrative mathematical usage in other subjects. Algorithms, analytical logic and verbal expression were formatted into social and technical studies.
State of New Mexico mandated each department to employ a Loss Prevention and Control Coordinator to mitigate insurable losses. Established a safety prevention program, as a department coordinator. Property and casualty claims were best-managed by behavior-based safety awareness.

Cover Letter of a Carpenter
My experience as a carpenter has been both academic and practical. As a student I attended a trade school where I learned the content and procedure for becoming a carpenter. Later I became an instructor teaching home construction and mathematics at a technical college. I also apprenticed with a master carpenter from whom I gained the confidence, technical skills and, perhaps as important, the people skills needed to run a business. While serving that apprenticeship I learned to build cabinets, shape balusters and spindles, design custom doors, and build new homes. At the time, being proud of my accomplishments, I felt that I was at the top of the trade. To my dismay however, that was only the beginning. The top of the trade, I was soon to learn, was remodeling wherein the carpenter has to work in an environment not common to being plumb, level, and square. Without a doubt, those years proved to be a very valuable learning experience after which I went on to building homes, renovating government facilities and refurbishing banks and credit unions. As an integral part of my experience, I had to create concepts, modify existing plans, design contingencies, manage procurements and schedules, construct products, resolve discrepancies, and produce a finished project. Though trained primarily as a finish carpenter, I had the opportunity to learn every aspect of the trade which was certainly an experience that could have never been learned in a classroom alone. Fifteen years later after my apprenticeship, I was well positioned to start my own business as a remodel-carpenter under the name, McDee Ent. My reputation grew across the southern half of New Hampshire and the greater Boston area. General contractors would hand me plans and say get the job done. Enough was said. They appreciated my quality of work, and I welcomed their confidence in me. I should mention one job experience of particular importance to this application. In the city of Manchester, New Hampshire a relatively small though prestigious college, St Anselm, deserves special mention as it compares closely to your work environment. This hilltop campus of 5000 students is one among many notable schools on the East coast. By comparison I wish to say that the carpentry skills and the people skills needed at St Anselm are, I suspect, very much the same skills needed at your facility. While at St Anselms, I built cabinets, laminated counter tops, taped drywall, restored doors and windows, rebuilt stairways, installed electron locks, and set floor tiles. I trust that these duties, though only a short list, are similar to the duties that a carpenter would perform at your facility. Perhaps I owe you an apology if this short briefing of my experience seems too self-deserving. My intent though is merely to present my interest as forthright and my qualification as competent. Perhaps too, as a candidate for carpenter, I may be fortunate enough to warrant a job interview at which time I may best present my commercial job experience.

Scope of work endeavors: From designing and constructing a commercial truck-docking to building a hand-crafted stairway. Interfaced with every facet of construction from planning to marketing.
Background training: Apprenticed under a master carpenter in the greater Boston area. For more that 20 years there after I demonstrated a competence of both journeyman and master capability.

Note: My experience is wide ranged. For more than 20 years I have installed ceiling and floor tiles, done extensive concrete work, installed doors, windows, and commercial hardware, framed new and renovated properties, worked with both wood and metal framing, hung and taped drywall, done extensive drywall repairs, and erected scaffolding. All work was completed to customer satisfaction and EPA and OSHA standards. This is but a short list of experience added to my qualifications as a master carpenter.
