Hydro-Electric Mechanic
As a Plant Mechanic I am responsible for performing installation, modification, maintenance and repair of all mechanical equipment at a hydroelectric power project which consists of a powerhouse, dam, and related works.
Operates various machine shop equipment, such as lathes, drill, presses, bench grinders, hydraulic presses, pipe threaders, and various air or electric portable tools such as drills, grinders, impact wrenches, brazing/welding/cutting torch, plasma arc, and electric arc welders to rework or build new parts.
Inspects plant structures and equipment to insure that the preventive and operating maintenance program meets established standards. Maintains, adjusts, checks, repairs, and lubricates mechanical features of generators, motors, turbines, pumps, governors, overhead, bridge, or gantry cranes, sluices and spillway gate hoists with cables or chains, and other mechanical features of the power project.
Recognizes safety hazards of moving equipment; compressed air, gas and liquids, electric shock; flying particles; dust, dirt and fumes; falling from high places; and working in close quarters. HECP certification.
Installs new equipment and associated piping and controls for modernization.
