30+ years experience in civil heavy highway, underground utilities, public and private site work and construction projects up $100 million. Proven results in the areas of negotiated and bid-build arenas. Construction experience includes field management as a superintendent, project manager and general manager. Proactive manager who leads by example and takes pride in developing new employees. Having done both the field work and estimating, I believe I have a very good understanding of what it takes to construct a project from bid to completion. I am a self starter that takes pride in his work.
Work Experience: January 2007 to February 2010 Southern Site Works inc. Zephyrhills, Florida Manager/Estimator - Hired as Senior Estimator responsible for overseeing all bidding and introducing company into the public sector. Prior to my employment, the company had only worked in the private sector, which meant pre-qualification with FDOT was necessary. This task was accomplished under my direction and multiple public sector contracts have since been awarded. Duties include research of bid opportunities, obtaining required bonds, buy out of successful bids, negotiation of subcontracts and purchase orders, as well as setting up project budgets. Promoted to General Manager in January 2009, in charge of day to day operations of company. During the period from 2007-2010, the company has shown growth while shifting from 100% private to 100% public.
March 1998 to Jan. 2007 - Middlesex Corporation, Orlando, Florida Sr. Heavy Highway Estimator - Estimate both public and private construction & paving projects ranging in size up to $100 million, and an annual volume of approximately 600-700 million in bids. Responsibilities include research of possible bid opportunities supervision of estimating department , materials take-offs, site visits, sub-contractor solicitation, materials and sub-contractor comparisons and selections including buy out, pre-bid schedules, pre-bid meetings and bid preparation, up to and including bid close-out.
Aug. 1994 to Mar. 1998 - D.A.B. Constructors, Inc., Inglis, Florida Project Superintendent - In charge of multi-million dollar Florida Department of Transportation projects, in the construction of roadways and drainage systems. Duties included supervision of multiple projects and crews simultaneously, including pipe crews, concrete crews, paving crews, heavy equipment operators, grade crews, etc.. Scheduling of personnel, sub-contractors, equipment, trucking and materials throughout project, to ensure contract requirements were met and jobs were completed as scheduled. Also completed multiple County and City contracts, in addition to F.D.O.T. work, including Marion, Alachua, Citrus, Sumter & Lake County and City of Ocala and Gainesville.
Feb. 1992 to Aug.1994 - Reynolds Construction Co., Tarpon Springs, Florida General Manager/Estimator - Bidding both utilities and site work jobs. As General Manager, I was in charge of setting up and implementing programs for job costing, company budgets, and cost controls. Day to day duties included estimating, materials purchasing, supervision of field crews, office and shop personnel, as well as management of accounts payable and accounts receivable. Verified and approved all company expenditures. I was authorized to sign on the owner's behalf with regard to contracts, change orders, etc..
Oct. 1990 to Feb. 1992 - Wimmer Contracting Corp, Dade City, Florida -Home office Wassau, Wisc. Estimator - Underground Utilities Division - Within three (3) months of being hired, I was promoted to Senior Divisional Manager, in charge of all utilities operations in Florida. I was in charge of reviewing the operations and personnel and putting into place a series of controls to make the division profitable. In September 1992, I was promoted to General Manager of Florida Site Work and Utilities Operations. Day to day duties included estimating, materials purchasing, supervision of field crews, hiring of personnel, supervision of office and shop personnel. I was authorized by owner to sign on his behalf with regard to checks, contracts, bonds, etc..
Dec. 1988 to Oct. 1990 - Reynolds Construction Co., Tarpon Springs, Florida Underground Utilities - Started Underground Utilities Division. Qualified the company under my license. Duties included estimating, ordering of materials, scheduling of work, progress billings, job costing, supervision of field crews. I also assisted site estimator, doing quantity take-offs on clearing, dirt. limerock, asphalt, etc.
Dec. 1980 to Nov. 1988 - Peckham Enterprises, Inc., D/B/A Aqua Services, Inverness, Florida Vice-President/Underground Utility Contractor - Installing water mains, sewer mains, lift stations and force mains. Duties included estimating, supervision of field crews, ordering of materials, scheduling of work, hiring of personnel, scheduling and repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment. Assisted with accounts receivable, accounts payable, progress billing and job costing.
