QUARRY/SAND PLANT MANAGER (2001 to 2003). Hands-on manager responsible for a 1.5MM TPY granite quarry and a 280,000 TPY sand operations (dredge and wet screen) including production, maintenance of mobile and fixed assets, safety, capital projects, and preparing operating and capital budgets. Raised efficiency in tertiary crushing plant 50% via manganese profile changes. Improved quality of dry run #8 stone via simple screen media changes. Troubleshoot all problems involving production, quality, and efficiency. Also, supervised a rock plant to screen the 5-10% rock that was dredged. Supervised 32 at the quarry and 3 at the sand plant.
REGIONAL EQUIPMENT MANAGER (1999 to 2001). Hands-on manager responsible for managing 300+ pieces of mobile equipment including 2 division maintenance shops. Duties included tracking equipment utilization, revenue versus expense, preparation of region capital budgets, and managing all fixed asset capital projects. Responsible for 6 asphalt plants (1.4MM TPY). Moved, repaired and erected a 1982 Cedarapids parallel flow drum plant; and moved and erected a stationary RAP processing unit. Troubleshoot all problems involving production, laydown, quality, and efficiency.
ASPHALT OPERATIONS MANAGER (1999). Responsible for production through laydown. Advised plants on cost controls and how to repair major problems. Changed mixes to get better cost advantage. Re-flighted drier to improve drying cost and production efficiency.

ASPHALT PLANTS MANAGER (1993 to 1999). Hands-on manager responsible for maintaining and operating five plants including cost analysis and P&L. Production: 700,000 TPY. Supervise 19. Designed and built 3 stationary recirculatory RAP crushing plants. Dismantled, moved and erected an Astec double barrel plant. Dismantled a Barber Greene batch plant and converted to an Esstee post drum mixer with drum controls. Added storage silos to two plants. Assist in developing operating budgets with division president. Responsible for scheduling the most cost-effective and quality-wise means of production while serving outside customers and intra-company sales. Purchased all natural gas for plants; managed pipeline use/inventory. Manage all material inventories at plants. Work with EHS Director to ensure compliance with local, state and federal agencies. Work with sales representative to address customer's service and product needs, and the company's goals concerning F.O.B. and intra-company sales.
QUARRY MANAGER (1993 to 1995). Hands-on manager responsible for production and maintenance in a 500,000 TPY granite quarry. Managed all costs associated with operation, and assisted in developing the operating budget. Responsible for controlling material inventory, development and improvement of all products. Work with EHS Director to ensure compliance with local, state and federal agencies. Tailor made aggregates for use in airport and other asphalt mixes. Quarry was sold March, 1995.





QUALITY CONTROL MANAGER (1988 to 1999). Design all DOT and FAA asphalt and base stone mixes as well as open graded products for the division. Designed and supervised production of a NAPA Quality in Construction Award winning SMA mix. Liaison between DOT Materials Division and the company. Work directly with DOT to solve any quality problems. Work with stone suppliers to tailor make stone products for use in asphalt mixes. Served on industry/DOT task force dealing with specifications, quality, laydown, and production issues.
MATERIALS TECHNICIAN (1986 to 1988). Responsible for designing and testing asphalt and stone mixes, and for making adjustments to plants to maintain quality products. Wrote FORTRAN program to handle blending of multiple aggregates and store data for mix designs; later converted to computer spreadsheet. Work with stone suppliers to reach solutions to quality problems concerning materials. Operated nuclear density gauge on field placed asphalt pavements. Responsible for supervising drilling crew during exploration of potential quarry sites in Virginia. Assisted sister company operating in North Carolina in preliminary evaluation of job-specific quarry sites.
