Israeli Chemical Limited (formerly Astaris) March 2005 present Lawrence KS Piping designer / Project manager I manage and design piping projects within the plant from conception to construction and supervise construction craft on capital projects. I estimate and staff my projects with typical budgets ranging from 25 K 1.5 Mil. I award the contracts for my projects to the mechanical contractors. I purchase the materials for my projects. List of projects completed: P4 dilution system, new pipe rack (600), 35K gal. acid storage tank, floor drain system, closed loop safety shower system, semi acid storage tank with heat exchanger, new drumming facility for semi acid (4.1 million), converted numerous C-276 Hastelloy systems to PFA lined pipe, air dryer, numerous boiler upgrades, oil skimmer, converted acid storage tanks to aeration tanks, (4) 600 scfm air blowers, hydrogen peroxide storage and unloading system, (2) 12,000 lbs/hr condensate movers.
Qualex Engineering Mount Vernon IN August 2004 March 2005 Senior Piping Designer Qualex is a design firm who mostly works for G.E. Plastics outside of MT. Vernon IN. I was assigned work inside the LEXAN plant within G.E. The piping problems consisted of heat stress issues, harmonics, reconstruction of a unit after a catastrophe, and construction management. All of my projects were safely completed on time and on budget.
Bayer Chemical Feb 2004 August 2004 Senior Piping Designer This assignment consisted of a design/construction in a new product area that included specialized piping systems such as FRP, PTFE, & C-276 Hastelloy. I was one of several designers working together as a team focused on a particular area that was given to me. All work done in AutoCad.
Chemical & Industrial Engineering July 2003 January 2004 Louisville KY (on assignment in Catlettsburg KY for Marathon Ashland Petro) Senior Piping Designer My contract assignment was to assist in design and construction during Marathons turn around for the crude/vac revamp. The first design responsibilities included steam and condensate manifolds throughout the unit. After this was completed I checked various designs and pipe supports until I was loaned out to the overall contractor Jacobs Engineering.
JACOBS ENGINEERING: On my sub-contract with Jacobs I handled problems in the construction involving pipe supports, fabrication errors, engineering errors, and budget problems. This position was to last about 5 months but Marathon (owner) wanted me to oversee night time construction for M&M Mechanical.
MARATHON ASHLAND PETRO: I was assigned a PDS model and was given 100+ pipefitters to assist and give direction when needed. Most of the problems was fab errors and multiple changes that effected the construction isos, so creating RFIs and ECNs consumed most of my time. Within a month at this position I was elevated to a Superintendants position. I handled manpower and forecasts, but since my old position was never completely filled, I occupied both seats the remainder of the job.
Astaris, Lawrence KS March 1, 2002 - March 8, 2003 Senior Piping Designer
My contract assignment on this job is to design and improve production systems within their construction scope. I assign construction crews work on a daily basis as well as troubleshoot efficiency problems on existing systems. After design, my job is to oversee construction and make sure there are no problems during start-up. Major projects I have been responsible for include: 200 GPM Reverse Osmosis system including all facilities and equipment. Retro-fitting storage tanks in hazordous areas and dangerous conditions. Designed and built new loading arms for train unloading. Kvaerner Process, Louisville KY Sept. 18, 2001 - Feb. 28, 2002 Mechanical Designer Design completed using Microstation SE, Q pipe, AutoCad 2000, PDMS Dupont, Louisville KY - Designed a fire protection upgrade which included a 600,000 gallon storage tank, (2) 2500 gpm diesel pumps, underground tie-ins to existing water lines, balanced LP steam system to accommodate tank spargers, developed start-up safety analysis for construction services. All work was within NFPA & AWWA specifications. All design was completed using MicroStation SE with Q Pipe. Protein Technologies, Louisville KY - I was responsible for working with shift supervisor on various shut down and maintenance projects plant wide. Duties included were punchlists, as-builts, locating tie-ins, designing pipe supports, and relocating equipment. Louisville Packaging, Louisville KY - I created as-builts of a freon loading station and designed pipe supports for various filters within the system. Borden Chemical, Louisville KY - I worked with Process engineer to develop drawing standards and line list creation for a Phenol recovery unit. I combined several P&ID's together and did walk downs to confirm new construction efforts within this unit. When completed, I created line lists and design criteria for the Phenol system. Black & Veatch (Overland Park, KS) April 1997 to Sept. 2001: Fort Meyers Project: 2000-2001 (Fort Meyers, FL) Checked underground piping in yard Area, checked main steam lines and revised, checked steel in the model vs. the shop drawings and delegated work to drafters who were modifying systems in my area. All work was done on ACAD 2000 and Powertrack 3D modeling. Lungmen Nuclear Project: (Taipai, Taiwan ABWR) Responsible for cooling water routing, solid radiation waste removal and various water, air and nitrogen station designs. All work was done on AutoCAD 14 and Powertrak solid modeling. Nantong Power Project: (Overland Park, KS) Responsible for routing underground yard piping (de-mineralized water, filtered water, wastewater, and wastewater sludge) for utility offsites on AutoCAD. Also responsible for working with other groups on the project to coordinate information with pipe supports, underground cable, and maintenance accessibility. Calpine Power Project: Designed various systems (filtered water, filtered water storage and supply, circulating water, chemical feed, and condenser air extraction) using AutoCAD and Powertrak. Other responsibilities included iso stretching, system uploads to 3D database, 3D walkdowns for interferences, working with various drawings from other disciplines to coordinate with piping drawings, delegating work to drafters, marking up and checking drawings for drafters, and laying out equipment arrangements. Most pipe designed on this project was done using strictly a 3D environment. (Powertrak-3D Modeling). Bayer Corporation (Kansas City, MO) August 1996 to April 1997: Contract Field Engineer for the F.O.E. Project.
