Background:
My Father is a retired Union Carpenter and I grew up around construction as a child.
At age 12 I started working for my father at joy Builders, Laboring and Carpentry.
Between 1976-1978:
Worked for Barrington Iron Works, Welding, painting and fabricating.
Worked for Elbee Home Improvement; Aluminum siding and soffits and Room Additions.
1979-1981:
Moved to Washington State and then worked for my father for the whole summer. Also worked for Washington State Department of Fisheries. My duties were general carpentry, plumbing, welding and painting.
1981-1984:
Worked for Anderson Roofing; my duties were tear-offs of shingles and flatwork; re-roofing shingles, hot tar and torch-on. I ran a crew and also had a company truck.
1984-1985:
I started working for Martin Builders; we did foundations and flat work: blueprint reading for houses; then did all the carpentry from the ground up including trim and roofing.
1985-1987:
Joined Local Union 839 and then went to work for Monarch Builders, building custom homes. My duties were rough carpentry.
Worked for Samco, where I did blueprint reading, general rough carpentry and exterior trim.
1987-1988:
Worked for R&D Theil where I was doing general carpentry; blueprint reading. Also I was on a roof crew where we did trusses and cut roofs.
1989:
That year I built homes for Horizon Enterprises; I ran a crew of four men. This job consisted of blueprint reading, general carpentry and cedar siding and trim.
1989-1991:
Moved to Maui, Hawaii; where I was asked to come and build six story townhomes. There I joined and transferred to Local Union 745, where I started working for Bosa Hawaii Corporation; running a crew of men. My job also included building parking garages; which we started from the ground up. Ground preparation and doing concrete footings and kneewalls and all walls and floors. We also built all of the fly forms, blueprint reading and concrete finishing. I ran the mill where I built roofs and walls. At times I had to run some machinery, Blackhoe, Bobcat, Front End loader and also a forklift.
1991-1996:
Worked for Degan & Rosato; where I did commercial work. My duties consisted of house additions, doors and hardware (KD & EO Prep.) I also did metal stud and drywall trimwork. Suspended ceilings and demo work and scaffolding work.
1996-2000:
I am presently doing subcontracting work for Martin Builders building houses including trim work. Custom stairs, concrete work and decks.
2000-2006:
Went to work for R&D Theil Company running crews and Cooper Stair Company building custom stairs.
2006-Present:
Worked for Southern Stair C1ompany and Crown Contracting. In Local 1765 Carpenters Union; did work for Disney and self-employed.
Various Types of Skills
Carpentry- Running crews up to five men. Rough framing, cut-roofs, hip and gable, stairs, decks, scaffolding work, siding- horizontal and vertical, laser and transit level suspended ceilings, drywall and taping, blueprint reading, ballom framing gables. Demo work.
Trim-Hanging Doors, jams and door mortising; casing base, handrails, cabinets, counters, vanities, setting sinks, hardware, hardwood flooring, crown molding, exterior trim, curved custom stairs and rails.
Concrete-Framing formwork, footing, retaining walls, flatwork, driveways, sidewalks, rebar and mesh work.
Roofing-All shingles, torch-on hot, tear-offs, cedar shake.
Plumbing-Bathrooms, kitchens, PVC, copper and plastic, tubs and drains
Electrical-Running new lines, three way switches, outlets, changing switches, outlets and fixtures
