This project received an AGC Melvin Black Award for Partnering.
Check quantities and made design changes with the use of Microstation and CEAL (Civil Engineering Automated Library).

Value Engineering
1. I-44 Whitetopping, Crawford County Instead of hauling millings off, MoDOT agreed to allow the millings to be used as a track line for the concrete paver.
2.I-44 Whitetopping, Crawford County Submitted design, with the use of AutoCad, to move the slip ramps which eliminated half at time construction.
3.Route 60, Carter County Was involved in changing spread footing design to drilled shafts.
4.Route 63, Macon County Adjusted profile grade to reduce asphalt quantity.
5.Route 63, Macon County Submitted new phasing to install a drainage structure across Route 63.
Engineering
1.Use HCSS Software to prepare estimates and change orders.
2.Perform Cost Analysis for construction operations such as: milling out an asphalt shoulder vs. excavating asphalt shoulder, tri-axle haul vs. off road vehicle haul or scrapers, diamond grinding vs. bonus pay, etc
3.With the use of AutoCad:
Determine dirt, rock, PCCP pavement and other quantities for payment, change orders, or construction operations. i.e. determine if waste areas or borrow areas where adequate.
Determine or check state paid quantities or determine quantities needed for construction operations. i.e. calculated PCCP area which resulted in an additional $100k income (Gene Synder Project).
Determine any construction engineering that is needed to facilitate any changes in construction phasing.
Design excavations greater than 20 and use professional engineer stamp as per OSHA.
4.With the use of a Digitizer, digitize cross sections to verify plan quantities and obtain information to create Mass Diagrams for earthwork.
5.Create Job Schedules with the use of either Microsoft Project or Primavera.
6.Take offs such as: reinforcing steel, asphalt tonnage, rock tonnage, concrete yardage, etc.
7.Implemented procedure to track pay items in order to compare with State Estimates.
8.Performed engineering that was needed in order to calculate quantities for change order items.
9.Make decisions in the field such as: layout of traffic control, layout of guardrail, layout of non-perforated outlet pipe, layout of permanent striping, construction drainage, etc
Deal with subcontractors such as:
1.Scheduling Coordinate Subcontractors Work so as not to interfere with the critical path.
2.Progress Be sure subs are aware of what progress (production) is needed so as to not interfere with the critical path.
3.Billing Track work in which my company performed but was on a subcontract, track any extra work performed by subcontractors, track subcontractor work that is state pay item, and check subcontractors work to be sure it meets state specifications.
4.Subcontractors State Correspondence Submit any design changes, change order requests, submittals, and subcontractors schedules.
5.Submitting all pre construction paperwork such as: C-220s, EEO, and Affirmative Action paperwork.
Operations:
1.Manager of a field office for Gohmann Asphalt, which includes a project coordinator and secretary. All material tickets, invoices, and drays go through this office for proper cost coding. Project coordinator assists me with daily operations such as entering daily quantities into GA Estimate, ordering miscellaneous materials, obtaining needed certifications, etc. Secretary assisted in cost coding rental equipment, cost coding miscellaneous construction materials, time sheets, filing, faxing, answering the phone, etc
2.Prepare and submit estimates for projects for billing as required. i.e. projects in which owner requires GA to submit pay estimates.
3.Instrumental in purchasing a $100k 3D computer system for graders. This totally eliminates any bluetops or construction engineering for cutting subgrade and placement of base rock. GA started with one and currently has 5 systems. These systems have greatly increased production with less labor.
4.Instrumental in convincing the company to purchase a trencher for installing edge drains.
5.Sought out borrow areas or waste areas and submitted any necessary submittals to other government agencies. i.e. zoning, flood plain verification from DNR, city municipalities permits, etc.
6.Dealt with property owners for lay down yards, concrete plant locations, borrow areas, waste areas, or other GA needs.
7.Conduct weekly superintendents meeting for scheduling purposes.
8.Schedule, layout, get approval of, traffic control switches, as needed.
9.Fill out End of Month reports for interoffice reports.
10.Order and coordinate the delivery for construction materials such as: precast structures, geotexile fabric, perforated and non-perforated pipe, reinforcing steel for drainage structures, castings for drainage structures, traffic control devices, etc
11.If necessary, run crews for construction operations.
12.Correspond with utilities for relocation and be sure they understand the critical path.
Correspondence with DOTs
1.Conduct Weekly Progress Meetings with INDOT for all Revive I-65 Projects GA was awarded and create minutes for each.
2.Estimate Change Order Items with the use of either Hard Dollar or Micorsoft Excel.
3.Engineer any possible phasing changes and present to DOT with a cost estimate.
4.Acquire and submit Material Certifications.
5.Design and Submit Traffic Control Plans if changed from plan.
6.Update scheduling and submit to Owners.
7.Address any discrepancies in quantities with the State.
8.Address any concerns or disagreements with the State.
9.Work with the State and coordinate any special requests the State may have such as: pothole repair, maintenance of traffic control devices, maintenance of erosion control devices, etc.
