Background: Ten years of claims, quality control and training as an employee specialist and regional claims supervisor for twenty-six offices in five states. Over ten years of human resource experience and employee- relations development.
As a seasoned executive in investigations of employee and manager complaints regarding violations of the companys policies (e.g. sexual harassment, I was responsible for maintaining best practices standards of business conduct and discrimination guidelines. Over ten years providing expert advice, counsel, and coaching to senior leaders, managers, and employees on all related issues such as, but not limited to: performance management, investigations, termination decisions, corrective action, HR and company policies and procedures, and all employment/labor laws through programs, practices, policies, investigations and actions.
Implementing and administering national HR initiatives to enhance company based strategic objectives.
Maintaining current and complete understanding of Federal and State laws including case law and regulations such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, FLSA, ADA, FMLA, ADEA, and state laws. Responsible for orienting new managers with HR practices and system requirements in addition to administering compensation, benefits and employee reviews. Providing coaching and development to front line management and employees on HR issues and career development. Promoting positive employee relations through consistent application of open door policy, and encouraging open dialogue between employees and management.
Twenty years in the assisted living industry including consulting and development of ongoing facilities in the Austin, Brenham and Houston/Harris County area.
Affiliations: Currently a legislative chair, board member, lobbyist and past president of The Houston Association of Residential Care Homes (HARCH).
Current: CEO and President of The Mathews Group, which has controlling interest in, two assisted living facilities and an insurance brokerage firm. Additional interests include advocacy for senior issues at the state capital and lobbying for the assisted living industry.
Present: State Manager for multiple disaster recovery centers. Responsibilities include coordination of all state agencies, ONA, TDI, Loss Mitigation, and others with the federal programs, FEMA and SBA to provide relief services to disaster victims. Problem solving, crisis management and networking are only part of the oversight provided to support staff and clients. Hands on supervision of insurance administration, contractors, relief agencies and occasional PIO duties provide constant challenges during the six day work week.
