Company Description:
Panoramic Interests is a Berkeley-based real estate development company specializing in infill housing. Founded by Patrick Kennedy in 1989, it has completed 13 projects in and around downtown Berkeley, which have added more than 500 housing units and 100,000 square feet of commercial space to the city. Its current focus is on car-free, sustainable rental housing close to transit. It strives to create buildings and dwellings that are stylish, efficient, economical, convenient, and which add character and vitality to the settings where they are built.Past projects have all been built on vacant and under-utilized parcels, located near major bus and rail transit lines. Ninety percent of the housing units this firm has developed are located within 1/3 mile of Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) stations, and the remaining 10% of housing units are located along major bus routes. As a result, most residents of Panoramic's projects use alternative transportation modes. Less than 1/3 of its buildings' residents own cars.Panoramic Interests also utilizes its commercial space to support Berkeley's diverse arts groups. Uses for the space include cafes that showcase local musicians, galleries that sell local artists' wares, and cultural centers that provide performance space for local music and repertory groups. The Gaia Building's Arts Center is host to many local plays, lectures, musical performances, and other cultural events. The ARTech Building added housing and a caf to Berkeley's burgeoning Arts District.Panoramic Interests recognizes the need to provide housing for the residents who make our city unique. Every project succeeds in housing several more of Berkeley's low-income families. Our fully accessible buildings provide much needed housing for members of Berkeley's large disabled community, many of whom are low-income. The Berkeleyan and Gaia Buildings illustrate this commitment by surpassing ADA requirements with fully accessible roof decks and remote controlled entry systems.Dedicated to the enrichment of civic life through supporting local businesses and community groups, Panoramic Interests leases many of its retail and office spaces to non-profit and arts organizations. We are currently working with the Berkeley Unified School District and housing officials on innovative solutions to the Bay Area's affordable housing shortage.
