Mr. Calkins is Chief Executive Officer and President of Carltas Management, the corporate general partner of Carltas Company. He is also President of CB Ranch Enterprises, which owns and operates The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch. Prior to 1986, he was a partner of the law firm Gray, Cary, Ames & Frye (now DLA Piper), continuing counsel to the firm until 1991. He was a member of the Planning Commission of the City of San Diego from 1987-92. Mr. Calkins is a director of Armstrong Garden Centers, and H.G. Fenton Company. In addition he is a trustee of Occidental College, the Thomas C. Ackerman Foundation, and the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego. He was a founding director and vice chair of Scripps Bank until its acquisition by US Bank in 2000.
