In 1947, Arch Batjer and Ralph St. John began Batjer and St. John, a residential heating and air conditioning installation and maintenance service at 765 Hickory. As Abilene expanded, the company grew, and in 1951, they hired mechanical engineer, Frank E. Peck. This enabled the company to pursue commercial and industrial work. In 1955, they hired Lewis Chase.
