Families selected as Habitat homebuyers purchase the houses with 20-year no profit, no interest mortgage to make payments affordable.
Habitat for humanity is an ecumenical Christian organization dedicated to the idea that all people deserve a safe and decent house in which to live. Habitat is bulding in more than 75 countries and over 1600 cities in the US and Canada. Volunteers do almost all of the work
performed on Habitat homes. Funds for materials come from individuals, churches, and organizations.
Who Can Receive a Habitat Home?
Homeowners are chosen according to their;
♥ Need
♥ Ability to pay the no-interest mortgage
♥ Willingness to partner with Lubbock Habitat
Homeowner families contribute 500 hours in volunteer labor to the building of their homes and make monthly mortgage payments to Lubbock Habitat. Their payments are placed in a revolving fund for Habitat to build and rehabilitate more houses in Lubbock. Habitat houses are purchased by the homeowner families. Three factors make Habitat houses affordable to low-income people:
♥ Houses are sold at no profit with no interest mortgage.
♥ Homeowners and volunteers build the houses under trained supervision.
♥ Individuals, corporations, faith groups and others provide financial support.
