Roger Preston & Partners has been appointed by The Beetham Organization Ltd as building services design consultants for this landmark project at 1 Blackfriars Road, London. Duties include developing a detailed Energy Strategy for the planning submission. The client//s objectives are to create a prestigious new development that maximises views over London and is both sustainable and commercially viable. The Ian Simpson Architects designed 97,000 sq m, 226 metre tower will be the tallest living space in Europe with a public viewing gallery on the top 3 floors, restaurants health club and swimming pool occupy the larger floorplates in the centre of the building. The lower floors are given to a 5 star deluxe hotel. A super-efficient envelope in conjunction with combined heat and power and renewable energy systems will reduce carbon emissions to well below the target anticipated for the 2006 Part L regulations. Preliminary BREEAM and EcoHomes assessments indicate a possible Excellent rating. The London Aquifer coupled with heat pumps will act as a heat sink for the hotel and apartments// heating and cooling systems.
