Habitat for Humanity of Metro Louisville Inc.   Jobs (Visit website)
Home Builders
Company Description:

In the midst of a worldwide housing crisis, millions of families still live in dangerous, unhealthy housing, struggling every day just to survive. For them, Habitat for Humanity's self-help housing program is a beacon of hope.

A nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry, Habitat for Humanity builds simple and affordable homes in partnership with those in need of decent housing. Habitat sells houses to qualified families at no profit with zero interest mortgage loans. The Kentucky Housing Corporation services mortgage payments pro bono for Habitat Louisville.

Habitat builds alongside families who demonstrate the need and willingness to partner with Habitat. Habitat offers a hand up, not a hand out to families who invest 400 "sweat equity" hours building their own and their neighbors' houses. Their monthly mortgage payments help fund the construction of more houses.

The Habitat for Humanity of Metro Louisville affiliate began in 1985 in Louisville, Kentucky. At the end of 2008, hundreds of volunteers worked alongside partner families to celebrate the start of the 300th Habitat home in Louisville, Kentucky. These 300 homes shelter nearly 1000 people, at least 330 adults and 558 children. In 2008, Habitat for Humanity of Metro Louisville was named the 12th largest home builder in Louisville, Kentucky by Business First.

Habitat for Humanity of Metro Louisville is a member of Kentucky Habitat for Humanity, the Metropolitan Housing Coalition, and the Home Builders Association of Louisville.
