David O. Thayer started his career as an apprentice lineman at Pennsylvania Electric Company on January 13, 1958. He had wanted to be a lineman since he was about twelve years old. While working at Pennsylvania Electric Company for eight years, having received all the credentials required to work high voltage, etc, he discovered that the company brought in contractors to complete specific projects. He then became interested in the contracting aspect of the business.
