Company Description:
More than 60 years ago, with a loan from his family and an office behind the kitchen, Donald A. Collins started the D.A. Collins Construction Company in Mechanicville, New York.
By bringing on board the most knowledgeable and experienced people in the industry, the D.A. Collins family of companies has today become a full service construction firm, providing superior industrial and infrastructure construction services and aggregate products to a variety of industrial, corporate and municipal clients throughout the Northeast.
With over $60 million of sophisticated construction equipment and one of the best safety programs anywhere, D.A. Collins is structured to lead heavy highway construction well into the new millennium. One only has to drive over the Twin Bridges on Interstate 87 of the Adirondack Northway, to understand the full capabilities of our companies.
In 1957, D.A. Collins Construction Company was awarded the prestigious contract that would later become our trademark, the Twin Bridges. Through the years, the D.A. Collins Companies have built or been involved with some of the most notable construction projects in the Northeast.
As D.A. paved the way to becoming one of the leading contractors in Upstate New York, he added to the success of the company by purchasing other companies. In 1970, D.A. Collins purchased the Pallette Stone Corporation in Saratoga Springs, an existing quarrying and asphalt manufacturing facility. Pallette Stone has two plant locations in Saratoga Springs, New York.
Kubricky Construction, a heavy utility contracting company, was then purchased in 1983. In 1988, D.A. Collins purchased one additional aggregate facility in Glens Falls, Jointa Galusha, L.L.C. These acquisitions provided diversification in construction and materials.
The year 2001 marked the 150th anniversary of Glens Falls oldest business, Jointa Lime, now Jointa Galusha, L.L.C. Jointa's history is a rich one, touching virtually all phases of the development of Glens Falls. The Jointa Lime was the very best grade, containing the highest amount of calcium carbonate. Other products produced by the company have included building stone, black marble, terra cotta, crushed stone and asphalt.
One additional capability lies in the contaminated soil industry. We own two thermal desorption facilities under the name of Environmental Soils Management, Inc. We have two locations, Fort Edward, New York, and Loudon, New Hampshire. These facilities are capable of treating all types of petroleum contaminated soil, including PCB's and coal tar. We are very proud to be one of the few companies in the United States to be included in the EPA's Star Track Program.
D.A. Collins has evolved into a full service construction company one that is unmatched in its skills, expertise and diversity.
