Fred and Evelyn Landis, natives of Pittsburgh, PA and Birmingham, AL respectively, settled in New Orleans after Mr. Landis World War II service with the U.S. Corp of Engineers. Mr. Landis began working in construction for Keller Construction Co. before deciding after a few years to start his own general contracting company.
In 1956, Fred Landis founded Landis Construction. At the age of fourteen, Jim Landis began learning his fathers trade as he worked digging ditches and carrying lumber. Following the death of Fred Landis in 1976, his widow Evelyn Landis preserved the family leadership of the company by becoming Chairman of the Board and in 1980, young Jim Landis took over as President.
Having overcome many challenges, Landis Construction has now become Landis Construction Co., LLC and an $80 million company with over 90 full-time employees, and an impressive resume of completed projects including the Harrahs New Orleans Casino, various Xavier University buildings, and many school and healthcare projects.
Much of Landis success has come through sacrifice, hard work, and the dedication of our employees to our clients, subcontractors and other associates in New Orleans and southeast Louisiana building community.
