General Contractors - Managers
Company Description:

The Ashton Company, Inc., Contractors and Engineers was founded by Harold Ashton in 1946 and incorporated in 1952. Mr. Ashton recalls, "The company experienced very dramatic growth in the fifties. In 1950, we built the Tucson Vocational School, a 130,000 square foot building for $1,350,000 - $10 per square foot for a reinforced concrete frame building complete with an elevator, stairways, an evaporative cooling and heating system and much more."

"In 1951, we completed the St. Mary's Road Bridge, the first bridge we ever built. In 1956, The Ashton Company built the 1050 foot long cable suspension bridge in Benson. By 1970, a party was held for the '100th Bridge' constructed and since that time, at least two hundred additional bridges have been built."

The fifties also saw the completion of a real diversity of projects. Some of these include - the Business and Administration building for the University of Arizona, the Central Heating and Cooling System for the University of Arizona, the Veterans Hospital Surgery Facility, a Radar Station, numerous state highways, rocket facilities and ammunition storage facilities at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, to name only a few.

Through the sixties, The Ashton Company increased its road and bridge building activity and construction of major buildings. The West Stadium addition for the University of Arizona, the university's Student Union Building, the Pima County Court House, Martin Reservoir and the Arizona Portland Roll Crusher were among the projects completed.

Growth has continued and today The Ashton Company probably has the most impressive and diverse portfolio of projects that can be claimed by any general contractor in Arizona.
