At the peak of this early work Interface had 14 road contractors as steady customers. The primary focus of the operation was from Hardin, IL to Columbia, IL and all points in-between. 1988 was the year Sam Hutchinson seized the opportunity to establish a maintenance component of the business. Interface bid and was awarded, the military family housing maintenance contract at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. The company has been involved in operations maintenance ever since. During the period 1988 to 1994 Interface transformed itself once again. This phase documents the change in corporate culture from subcontractor to general contracting and construction management.
