General Contractors - Managers
Company Description:
Leo Wexler founded Wexler Construction in 1947, the same year that
Jackie Robinson signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers
Harry Truman was in the White House, and
Raytheon Company produced the first microwave oven, a 75-pound prototype
The early years of the company featured a focus on public sector projects including schools and government buildings. After Leo's untimely death in 1961, the company was managed for a time by Bill Kopans, the company's in-house counsel. He later married Leo's widow Elaine Wexler. Elaine Wexler Kopans was active in the business until her death in 2001. Her integrity and commitment to client service continue to serve as a driving force within Elaine, and inspired the change of the company's name in her honor.
Shortly after Leo and Elaine's son Ken Wexler graduated from college in 1965, he assumed a leadership role. Ken served as Elaine president for over four decades; he continues today as a full-time company principal and Chairman of the Board.
Lisa Wexler, Ken's daughter, became vice president in 1992 and president of Elaine in 2007. Just as Ken had a generation before, Lisa grew up working at the firm, gaining valuable experience by performing just about every job in the company - from field laborer to accounts receivable clerk. Lisa is the third generation to run the company. She is the third generation of Wexler family member presidents.
Ken's mother and brothers Don and Bob worked in the business through the 1980's. Don continues to manage projects and is Elaine's Director of Sustainability.
From our founder, Leo A. Wexler, to the second and third generation of family currently responsible for the stewardship of the organization, "family" has a special meaning at Elaine Construction. It refers to the durability of our relationships and to our commitment to each client and to each other. It means that every member of the Elaine Construction team supports every other member and is invested in our collective success. And that includes the success of our clients.
Elaine Construction is certified as a WBE by WBENC (Women's Business Enterprise National Council).
