By 1943 he began commercial construction and Polk Construction Company was organized. The company operated as Marvin L. Polk DBS Polk Construction Company until the early 1970's. The company was then changed to Polk Construction Company, Inc. Marvin L. Polk constructed not only commercial construction but industrial; such as electrical sub stations and refinery work at the Chevron Refinery in Pascagoula, MS.
On September 9, 1977 the company's ownership was transferred to his son, L. A. "Tony" Polk, Sr. The company was reorganized in 1978 and the name changed to Polk Construction Corporation. The company is currently licensed in Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama.
