Company Description:

Blais Civil Engineers offers adaptive, flexible services to meet the unique demands of every project we are involved with.

At the core of our service philosophy is the understanding that every project requires clear and open communication between all members of the development team. Therefore, we focus on anticipating challenges, promptly bringing them to light, and aggressively working to solve them. By integrating ourselves into the total project, we help minimize surprises and costly delays.
Overview of Services Offered
Site and Civil Engineering

We believe that responsible, sustainable land development begins with an evaluation of the propertys natural strengths and features. These observations inform our engineering decisions and guide us in transforming the land in ways that maximize its usability and value.
Construction Documentation and Administration

As land development projects increase in cost and complexity, it is crucial that a center of communication is established. We fill this role and ensure that the land owner has the information and tools they need for successful completion of their project. We do this by:

* Defining the project and preparing the necessary bid documents
* Managing the bidding process, ensuring accuracy and thoroughness
* Providing clear, accurate, and complete construction drawings
* Maintaining ongoing communications with contractors and sub-contractors
* Making regular field visits and observations

Floodplain Analysis and Management

Floodplain management is the operation of a community program of corrective and preventative measures for reducing flood damage. These measures take a variety of forms and generally include requirements for zoning, subdivision or building, and special-purpose floodplain ordinances.

Steve Blais is a certified floodplain manager in the state of Maine. This certification enables us to augment limited state resources by providing municipalities with consulting services to help manage administration of their floodplain ordinances.
Regulatory Permitting

* Natural Resources Protection Act Permits
* Stormwater Permits
* Site Location of Development Permits

Low Impact Development Designs (LID)

LID is an approach to land development (or re-development) that works with nature to manage stormwater as close to its source as possible. LID employs principles such as preserving and recreating natural landscape features, minimizing effective imperviousness to create functional and appealing site drainage that treat stormwater as a resource rather than a waste product. There are many practices that have been used to adhere to these principles such as bioretention facilities, rain gardens, vegetated rooftops, rain barrels, and permeable pavements. By implementing LID principles and practices, water can be managed in a way that reduces the impact of built areas and promotes the natural movement of water within an ecosystem or watershed.
