Incorporated in 2001, Elara Engineering is comprised of about 25 engineers who have expertise in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and information technology engineering. The team is led by three principals: Don McLauchlan, P.E., C.E.M., LEED AP, Steve Maze and Jay Parikh, P.E., all of whom share a passion for providing efficient building design recommendations that minimize the carbon footprint on the environment.
Don has more than 30 years of experience in MEP design, construction and commissioning that began at Arrowhead Environmental Control, the business his father founded in 1951. Steve and Jay - who also have 20 years in engineering experience respectively - worked with Don at Arrowhead until the business was sold in 1999 to Honeywell. Shortly thereafter, Elara Engineering was formed in 2001.
With a passion for energy-efficient, sustainable design, Elara Engineering produces creative, cutting-edge designs that improve the functionality of both new and existing buildings. Engineers analyze the overall big picture, communicate with the client to determine the project goals, then deliver practical energy-efficient recommendations that optimize energy use throughout the site.
Elara Engineering has a wide-range of clients that include large campuses, higher education, K-12 schools, high-rise condominiums, hospitals and industrial sites. Most recently, Elara has provided its engineering services for Loyola University, Olivet Nazarene University, Abbott Laboratories, Kankakee Community College, and several downtown Chicago residential high-rise buildings. Many of the firm's projects have been recognized by ASHRAE for excellence in engineering for its innovative designs, master planning, and cost- saving analyses provided by the firm's energy audits.
