Company HistorySummit Engineering is a Pikeville, Kentucky based civil and environmental engineering, mining engineering and architectural firm. Established in 1977 we have expanded rapidly to meet the growing civil, architectural and mining engineering needs of the Southeast. Summit opened a Mining Engineering Division in Big Rock, Virginia in 1980. In 1981, Summit's Civil Engineering Design Headquarters opened in Lexington, Kentucky. 1985 saw a fourth office opened in Chapmanville, West Virginia. Summit Architectural Services was created in April 1995 and operates out of the Pikeville office, and our second West Virginia office was opened in Charleston, shortly thereafter in 1996. Summit's sixth office was opened in 1998 in Hazard, Kentucky. We added mining engineering in the Lexington office in 2008. We again decided to expand farther 2008 by opening our seventh and eighth offices in Bridgeport, West Virginia and Wise, Virginia. We have successfully operated by the motto If you do not grow, you die.Our experience and expertise encompass the following areas:Civil - Road design, bridge designs, structural designs, water systems, storm and sanitary sewer systems, sanitary landfills and municipal engineering, Industrial Business Parks, Master Planning, Downtown Revitalization.Mining - Mine design, Mine Planning, Permitting, Ventilation Studies, Reserve Evaluations, surveying and mapping, hydrologic investigation, geologic investigation, and environmental monitoring and testing.Environmental - Aquatic biological surveys, stream and wetland determinations & delineations, emission inventory, environmental site assessments, surface water protection plan, reclamation cost analysis, reclamation bond release, NPDES permits, and air quality permits.Architectural - Parks and recreational areas, small and medium-sized office buildings, large multi-floor office buildings, commercial and retail space, medical and research facilities, streetscape and gateway elements, master planning, golf course design and parking garages.Surveying - Planimetric, reconnaissance, terrain, boundary, property and subdivision, roadway surveys, cross-sections, construction staking, control surveys for aerial photography, GPS, and mine surveys including underground, quarries and stockpiles.Laboratory - Soil testing, baseline water quality studies and compliance monitoring.Disciplines Represented
