Municipal Pipe Tool Co., Inc. (MPT) is a company specializing in sewer maintenance and rehabilitation of municipal and industrial collection systems. MPT originated as a business managed out of the home of Vincent "Vic" Gearhart. Vic had worked as a sewer equipment salesman for O Brien Manufacturing since 1965, and beginning in the summer of 1967, Vic and his son Steve would perform projects consisting of cleaning and televising sewer pipeline throughout the State of Iowa. At this time the company was known as Vic Gearhart & Son. In 1973 Vic and Steve hired their first employee and renamed the company Municipal Pipe Tool Company. They also moved the company to their present location in Hudson, Iowa. On December 6, 1978, the company became incorporated and has since been known as Municipal Pipe Tool Co., Inc. In 1985, Vic and Steve formed Nutri-Ject Systems, Inc., (NJS) a biosolids management company, which performs digester cleaning, lagoon dredging, biosolids hauling, and land application of wet and dry biosolids. At this time, there were approximately 12 employees between the two companies. Vic retired in 1986, at which time Steve became President and Owner of both MPT and NJS. Throughout the 1980's and into the 1990's, MPT continued to grow. In 1996, Steve formed C.I.P.P. Corporation as a natural outgrowth of the existing technologies and processes being utilized by MPT crews. C.I.P.P. Corporation provides for the cured in place pipelining of existing sewer pipelines. The corporation is made up of multiple contractors located throughout the United States. Municipal Pipe Tool Co., Inc. has been in the business of providing sewer maintenance and rehabilitation for 30 years. Its President, Steve Gearhart, has been with the company every step of the way. Steve is considered to be one of the most knowledgeable individuals in the Midwest on infiltration/inflow studies. he has spoken at many schools and seminars on such studies. He is acknowledged by the State of Iowa Department of Natural Resources as being one of the top authorities in sewer pipeline maintenance and rehabilitation. He has developed many new technologies and methods in identifying, investigating, and rehabilitating both private and public sector infiltration/inflow and rain induced infiltration in sanitary sewer systems. The special expertise that Steve Gearhart brings to Municipal Pipe Tool Co., and the sewer rehabilitation industry is in knowing which process to use to bring about the most effective form of repair and maintenance to the customer.
