In the fall of 1993, D. Fred Martinez, a 32 year old engineer, was dreaming
of a new company. Prior to that time he had gained over 9 years of experience
at a Fortune 100 engineering and testing firm. As a result Dr. Martinez
recognized that the engineering market had limited use of computer tools
in accounting and finance and the use of electronic tools for layout design
was just being introduced. Due to increased regulation and compliance
requirements Dr. Martinez saw that the engineering and testing industry
was becoming increasingly inundated with paper.
