Ms. Godfrey, a classically trained portrait and figurative sculptor, has applied her education to tile making. Creating hand sculpted relief tile allows her to explore unique ideas in design, texture and color. After extensive travel throughout Europe, she began incorporating multicultural themes into her work. Recent designs are derived from Scandinavian, Indian, Celtic and Byzantine art. Nicola sculpts a master tile for each design by hand. Starting with a pencil drawing, she carefully takes her ideas from paper to clay model. Once she is satisfied with the prototype, she creates a master die allowing each design to be duplicated for larger installations. These tiles are specifically made for installation in homes, gardens, restaurants, pools and spas or any project requiring specialty art tile.
