We strive to carry out the provisions of the trust, created by Percival P. Baxter, and known to the people of Maine as Baxter State Park. The Baxter State Park Authority exists to ensure that the Park "Shall forever be kept and remain in the Natural Wild State", to provide recreational opportunities to the public in accordance with trust provisions, to operate and maintain the Park for the use and enjoyment of Maine's people.
Our year-round staff of 23 swells to about 60 in the summer, including administration and reservation personnel, maintenance personnel, and field and law enforcement rangers.
Our seasonal positions average a term of 15-26 weeks in length. More than 10% of our seasonal workers have been with Baxter State Park for at least 15 years, with the average tenure for all of our seasonal employees at about 3-5 years. Growth and advancement opportunities exist within the field for the short season and, on occasion, seasonal employees advance to full-time, year-round positions.
