The San Diego Housing Commission is an award-winning public agency that helps low-income families, seniors, and people with disabilities afford housing in the high-cost City of San Diego.
It helps more than 12,000 families with rental assistance (Section 8) and almost 1,800 with publicly owned apartments (public housing). In addition, agency programs have enabled 4,000 families to buy their first homes and over 9,000 to rehabilitate their older homes. Working with nonprofit and for-profit developers, the San Diego Housing Commission has also helped create more than 23,000 apartments in San Diego, including over 10,000 with affordable rents.
