From a Living-Room Bible Study to a Regional Ministry...
Beginning with a burden to reach North County's Oceanside community with the gospel of Jesus Christ, Shawn Mitchell and his wife Laurie, began New Venture Christian Fellowship as weekly Bible study in their living room with five others in the fall of 1989. The first Sunday morning service took place on October 1, 1989, with fifty two in attendance. The ministry soon grew to four Sunday morning services, eventually moving to El Camino High School in Oceanside, California. During this exciting time of birth and growth, New Venture had to meet in twenty-two locations to facilitate its expanding ministry.
On July 3, 1994, less than five years since the first small gathering of seven, over 2,500 celebrated the opening services in a worship center on the church's 19 acre permanent church site. In addition to a nearly 2000 seating capacity sanctuary, the campus also includes Kid's World an amazing 15,000 sq. ft. children's environment and activity center featuring a two story stage with a cool kids theme, video games, professional tech gear, parents viewing area and indoor volleyball/basketball court for the church, school and community use.
New Venture Christian Schools was established in 1997 as an educational outreach of New Venture Christian Fellowship, providing quality education with a Christian emphasis, an expansive curriculum, state of the art facilities and a committed emphasis on gearing the educational experience to the learning strengths of each individual student.
Reflecting the ministry's belief that church should be biblical, enjoyable and relevant, and that all people matter to God, New Venture addresses the needs, hurts and interests that unite all people, and offers a variety of programs and activities, that provide opportunities for spiritual growth and social expression for the entire family, with the ultimate goal of "Helping People Find Christ and Live Life to Its Fullest."
