BHA is a public corporation that contracts with the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to provide low rent public housing and Section 8 assistance payments for the communities in which we server. BHA is neither a federal agency nor a department of the City of Bremerton. We are not carried under the city budget nor do we receive funding from the City of Bremerton.
Because our federal relationship is contractual our agency qualifies for certain subsidies. Although BHA derives its power from state law, we do not receive funding from the State of Washington; our income relies on rents and subsidies. BHA is responsible for our own debts and our own powers of condemnation. BHA employees are not city, state, or federal employees.
