About Us

Enrollment:
Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools serves over 34,500 students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12.

Accreditation:
The system as a whole, along with each individual school, is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges (SACS). The system complies with the rules, regulations and standards set by Georgia's Department of Education. All members of the Board of Public Education hold certification of professional training provided by the Georgia School Boards Association.

Facilities:
The district operates more than 49 schools and satellite facilities including Massie Heritage Interpretation Center, a preserved historic school; and Oatland Island Education Center, an environmental education complex.

Governance:
An elected Board of Public Education is the policy-making branch of the school district's administration. The board president is elected county-wide for a four year term. Eight board members, representing geographic districts coinciding with those of the Chatham County Commission, are also elected to four-year terms.

The superintendent of schools, appointed by the board, is charged with implementing board policy and overall administration of the school system.
