Company Description:
Here at Muskogee Housing Authority our goal is to enhance the quality of life for residents in the Muskogee area by providing affordable, quality housing options, advocating for resident involvement in community and employment opportunities, exemplifying leadership roles within the communities and promoting an ideology of self-sufficiency. The Muskogee Housing Authority was created by a vote of the people at an election held on September 9, 1969. The proposition carried by a large majority, and the Mayor and City Council appoint members to the Board of Commissioners. The Muskogee Housing Authority is a non-profit, public entity governed by this five-member Board of Commissioners (in partnership with the City of Muskogee), who hire the Executive Director of the Housing Authority to administrate all business functions. The Muskogee Housing Authority provides rental assistance to low-income families at three public housing sites, Port City Acres and Green Country Village, and also provides rental assistance for the elderly and handicapped at Honor Heights Towers. Section 8 Tenant-Based Assistance is available for families who qualify for the program, providing housing choice with rental assistance. Tenants choose their own landlord through this program. The Muskogee Housing Authority also makes available two Family Self-Sufficiency programs (public housing and Section 8) providing guidance and assistance to help increase income and build assets for low-income families.
