Company Description:
The region's only dedicated zoological garden, Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo (the Zoo) was designed to enhance quality of life in greater Tampa Bay as an affordable, leisure destination and center for education and species conservation. Natural outdoor exhibits for animals from Florida and similar habitats include a Florida wildlife center and manatee hospital, Asian Gardens, Primate World, free-flight aviaries, Wallaroo Station children's zoo, and Safari Africa. The Florida Environmental Education Center (The Zoo School) showcases the Zoos unique status as the first and only U.S. zoo to offer daycare (early childhood education), preschool, and kindergarten, and, since 2008, a youth center.
Re-opened at its current site in 1988, Tampas Lowry Park Zoo is ranked as the number-one zoo in the U.S. (Parents magazine 2009, Child magazine 2004) and recognized by the State of Florida as a center for Florida wildlife conservation and biodiversity.
The Zoos programs serve a statewide audience about 70% of Zoo visitors are Florida residents. The Zoo is a major tourist attraction for the region. The Zoo is owned by the City of Tampa and operated by the Lowry Park Zoological Society, an independent 501( c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to education, recreation, conservation and research. The Zoo depends on earned revenue for more than 80% of its annual operations.
