Company Description:
Graeber, Simmons & Cowan was founded in the fall of 1978 by David Graeber, Al Simmons & Tommy Cowan, who set out to create a world-class architectural firm, built on the precept that our clients deserved the very best professional service that we could provide. GS&C set out to create nothing less than a new architectural culture, drawing from their combined experience and unique values. Broad diversity and environmental stewardship were to be cherished. A blend of boundless creativity and enthusiasm would be balanced by a deep sense of heritage and integrity. These are principles that still serve the firm today. They also believed that a successful future can only be built upon a solid foundation. Accordingly, they included their old friend and mentor, R. Max Brooks, FAIA, in the firm. A true Texas gentleman and gifted architect, Brooks offered sage advice and a seasoned perspective-along with strong Austin connections and valuable experience stretching back to 1935. The combination of Graeber, Simmons & Cowan was ideal. While all three had broad-based industry experience, each had his particular forte - from design to process to construction. Blending those strengths, GS&C successfully tackled very large projects from the start. In fact, three of our first clients were The University of Texas at Austin, St. David//s Community Hospital and Southwest Texas State University. As Austin has grown over the years to emerge on the international playing field, so too has GS&C. We//ve continued to uphold the highest design standards and maintain rock-solid client relationships. New partners joining the firm have added their skills and expertise to the mix. Our point of view has broadened to empower visionary, community-wide thinking. At the same time, we//ve increased our focus through the development of key concentration areas to serve clients in the most specialized industries, including the technologies, senior living, economic development and more. Today, the GS&C client list numbers over 500. But we//re proud to say we continue to provide design services for those first three customers.
