We see our work happening at the dynamic intersection of three disciplines: Architecture, Planning, and Preservation. Our work is inspired by our mission: designing sustainable environments. Since the firm was established in 1990, we have worked on projects of many scales, striving always to create healthful (and intelligent) buildings and city spaces. Budgets are always an important constraint, but we believe every project can shine regardless. We prefer a personal approach, listening carefully to gain an understanding of clients// needs and wants, the project constraints, and helping to find the special opportunities. In December 2005, Farr Associates became the first firm in the world to have designed 2 LEED Platinum rated buildings; The Chicago Center for Green Technology and the Center for Neighborhood Technology. This outstanding achievement sets us apart as the most sustainable firm of our kind, creating environments that exceed the current standards for healthy, sustainable places. Creating form-based codes for regions in need of re-zoning allows us to create livable places that demonstrate sustainable urbanist principles in both planning and architecture. We developed the first form-based code adopted in Illinois to assist implementing the downtown redevelopment plan we created for the town, and we are leading the effort to develop sustainable guidelines for neighborhoods.
