Her drive, education and natural talent led her to work for Ben Carpenter, owner of a 12,000-acre family ranch which she assisted in turning into what is now known as Las Colinas. Ms. Bates was responsible for the landscape architectural office for Mr. Carpenter, where she designed the landscaping for commercial office buildings, restaurants, hotels, and a variety of canal walkways. Armed with a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Tech University, Ms. Bates turned her attention exclusively to interior foliage design in the corporate environment and created her own company, Corporate Green Interior Foliage Inc.
