The firm has also been honored in several national architectural competitions, including a First Prize in the San Francisco Embarcadero Waterfront Competition; has had projects exhibited in New York City, Washington, DC, Houston, San Francisco, Paris, Milano, and Berlin; and has had work published in the New York Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, Architecture, Progressive Architecture, Interior Design, Dwell, Praxis, l Arca, and Landscape Architecture magazines. The principals of Evans Heintges Architects have a diverse portfolio of architectural design solutions for projects at many different scales, including educational, governmental, and recreational facilities, as well as high-rise residential and commercial complexes. Their buildings have emphasized innovative conceptual and technological solutions, encompassing both sustainable design practices and the intricate detailing required of high-technology curtainwalls customized for local environmental conditions. Most importantly, the buildings have met the owners' programmatic requirements and have been constructed efficiently, within rigorous budgetary and time constraints. Recent projects of Evans Heintges Architects have focused on providing efficient environments for high-technology suburban office buildings in the Northeast, including Headquarters Buildings for TRW Information Systems in Reston, Virginia, and Excelergy, Segue Software and Stride Rite Corporation in Lexington, Massachusetts. Three urban high-rise office buildings in Singapore, including Citibank's Southeast Asia Headquarters, completed construction in 1999. During the past year, the curtainwall consulting division of Evans Heintges Architects has undertaken commissions for institutional buildings in New York City, Little Rock, Cambridge, MA., and Washington, D.C. These projects include the exterior wall design and detailing for the Clinton Presidential Center; for the rehabilitation of and addition to the Museum of Modern Art; for the addition to MIT Media Lab and Harvard Science Center; and construction administration services for three new U. S. Courthouses. The principals' goal is to achieve a synthesis of classical design principles and modern technology. Both Mr. Evans and Mr. Heintges are personally involved with the design, technical resolution, and administration of each project. Robert Evans has worked for over thirty-five years as an architectural designer in nationally recognized firms specializing in institutional, residential, and commercial buildings. At Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates he was Partner-in-charge-of-Design for major buildings, such as Independence Square in Washington, D.C., which integrated the complex programs of two large federal agencies into a cohesive architectural solution and which received a 1995 Federal Design Achievement Award from the National Endowment for the Arts. Several of his projects have received national awards for building design and for the innovative use of materials. Evans won the prestigious Rome Prize in Architecture in 1972 and is a Fellow of The American Academy in Rome. Robert Heintges is an acknowledged expert in the design and implementation of exterior wall systems. His fifteen years at I.M. Pei & Partners included, as Senior Associate-in-charge, chief design and technical responsibility for the curtainwall of the Bank of China in Hong Kong. Recently he has practiced as an architectural curtainwall consultant in his own firm, R. A. Heintges and Associates, which functions as the technical services division of Evans Heintges Architects. Heintges is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation, where he teaches Advanced Building Technology
