What is a construction Corporate Safety Director job description?

Corporate Safety Director to be based in our corporate office and provide safety leadership to our operations across the United States. As the Corporate Safety Director, you will manage a team of four regional Safety Directors and their respective teams by facilitating strategic planning for the Company’s safety department. You will direct efforts to continuously improve STRUCTURAL’s safety culture.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

Provide continual development of procedures for safety standards and best practices

Serve as facilitative leader of the Safety Management Leadership Team and partner with Company leadership to formulate operational business strategies, establish goals, and implement solutions

Coordinate with the Risk Management team to ensure claims are effectively managed

Coordinate responses to OSHA investigations, citations, and negotiations and coordinate with designated internal and external legal representatives

Conduct and/or coordinate training in areas such as safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment

Conduct, facilitate, and review safety audits to ensures compliance with federal, state, local and company regulations

Candidates who meet the following criteria may be considered for this strategic safety leadership position:

Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Safety Management, Construction or related field

Certification from recognized certification board - Certified Safety Professional, (CSP), Certified Safety Auditor, Certified Safety Manager or similar

15+ years of experience in safety management within the construction industry with at least 10 of those years in a supervisory and leadership role overseeing a highly structured safety program

In-depth technical working knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, federal, state, and local regulatory standards

Proven track record of improving safety performance by instituting behaviorally based safety programs

Experience working in an industrial environment (chemical, petrochemical, power plant)

Ideal candidate is an innovative but decisive leader who can work effectively in a highly collaborative, team-based environment; has the ability to set goals and expectations and hold others accountable; can encourage and mentor others; is approachable, empathetic and outgoing; can quickly gain trust and respect and is able to establish and maintain relationships. Approximately 70% travel is required with this position.
